Hi! My name is Anna Russell and I am the founder and curator of this scary thing. The Skeleton Crawl was born out of a deep love of skeletons and a genuine frustration with the current gallery scene.
Most artists have at least one surreal or creepy work. Many build entire portfolios entertaining this theme. Rarely are these types of works showcased together and often these works get overlooked by fine art gallery curators. I thought it would be horrid fun for both artist and audience to view multiple scary works side by side - and it is! So I became a curator and the founder of this scary thing. Our first year in 2019 was a huge success with over 20 participating artists in painting, photography, printmaking, illustration, music, and film. We had an artist drawing caricatures and an illustrator applying her own drawings as temporary tattoos. It was a great turn out. Since then our community of creepy artists has grown and this year we had over 300 submissions! This community has been amazing to watch grow. Every artist involved thus far is so inspiring and deserves to be seen. I want to help them be seen. I am honored to be a part of the Crawl community, and if you aren't a part of it yet, please consider joining us creepy creatives. |
